Breakout: Strategies for Managing Our Data

Managing the increasing quantities of our personal information (emails, documents, streams of self- tracking data, etc.) can be difficult. We’ll share ideas, tools, and strategies for getting more personal benefit from our voluminous data.

I attended this session and found it very thought provoking. What was interesting to me was the lack of tools and techniques for the management of data - and the fact that pretty much everyone was using a different (bespoke) solution. I’m hoping to do some research in this area over the summer and would love to hear about other people’s experiences of managing data. I’ll be posting a survey in about four weeks, but in the meantime if you have any thoughts to share I’d love to hear them,

Joan

Hi folks,

Following on from my previous post - I’ve prepared a survey, with a strong focus on data management. See below.

I’m an MSc. student, based in Dublin, Ireland currently doing research into how members of the Quantified Self community manage their data. As a long-time self-tracker (and professional librarian) I’ve always been interested in how we organise and manage data. I’m hoping that through this research, and with your help, I’ll gain a greater insight into the data challenges facing the QS community.

I would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete a survey, which will help to inform my research. All information will remain confidential and results, once anonymised, will be shared with the QS community.

You can take the survey here

I really appreciate the time you are taking to complete this survey and am more than happy to be contacted directly, should you wish to do so.

many thanks,

Joan Murphy
