Sleep challenges via fitbit - sleepwars.com

Hi all -

I recently built a side project to see if gamification can help our sleep. It’s called sleepWars(http://www.sleepwars.com) and it allows you to challenge other users to sleep contests tracked via the Fitbit API.

If you track your sleep with a Fitbit One or Flex, you can sign up and challenge others (just other random users at this stage) to either 1) sleep more or 2) sleep better via the Fitbit quality score. I’m also testing out the Jawbone Up right now to be able to open the site to that user base once Jawbone opens the API to the public.

I’m looking for some beta testers. If you’re interested, please head over to http://www.sleepwars.com and sign up, and create a few challenges, and let me know what you think.

Keep in mind that the optimal amount of sleep differs a lot from person to person and from day to day. Also, a high “efficiency” can be a sign that you are not getting enough sleep! Figuring out how to award points for sleeping while encouraging healthy behavior is an interesting, but non-trivial problem.

Also, consider adding support for BodyMedia? Works better for tracking sleep than Fitbit, at least in my experience.

yes - i’d like to add both Body Media and the Jawbone Up, but I don’t own a Body Media device yet and Jawbone’s public API isn’t available yet. I thought I’d start with Fitbit due to it’s API availability and solid install base. Thanks for the feedback.
