I’m looking for an activity monitor/pedometer type device that I can use for my research. Ideally, it would sync wirelessly online, and allow me to access the data. The Fitbit is definitely an option but I was wondering if there was anything else out there?

Check out the BodyMedia armband device… Syncs with BT to phone and has an API that, although limited, does get basic activity/step (and some other) data out nicely. Works much better than Fitbit for me.
Other devices (jawbone, basis) sound interesting in theory but haven’t materialized yet.
